foot gear

Hello Folks,
My husband and I are brand new to letterboxing. We have found five out
of six attemps since last Sunday.
My question is how do you keep all the prickly things out of your
shoes? It is the only unfun thing about this great adventure. Thanks
for any advice. Tucson Trickster

I bought myself a nice pair of Gore-tex hiking boots about 4 years ago. Pricklyproof, waterproof, pretty much the only thing they're not -proof is mud-up-to-your-knees (as I found out a couple of weeks ago....)

Google GAITERS! REI is one source.

I haven't had much of an issue with prickly things while letterboxing--might be just the safe letterboxes I choose to seek! On the other hand, I do have that problem when I go butterflying--for that I usually wear my garden boots from Wal-Mart with pants tucked in and insect repellant liberally sprayed around the tops. Protection against brambles, poison ivy, and ticks!

Unless it's blistering hot [which it can be here in
August] I always wear jeans and a light weight pair of
hiking boots, and I don't have any trouble with
prickles. But I'm not in the desert, either. Maybe
they're unavoidable in your terrain?
